What does the military and logs have in common? The military kept logs and records about everything. Fold3 is digitizing those records. Join us at our monthly meeting on Saturday, May 18, 2019, to learn about that and about research logs.
But first, Rondie Yancey will kick off the meeting with the short class You Don’t Have to be a Lumberjack to Love Logs (see how I tied that in to the blog title?). Is keeping a research log too much trouble? Is it basically a waste of your precious research time? That’s what Rondie thought, too. Then she had a mind-altering experience with a century-old Brick Wall, and now she is a born-again believer. Rondie will tell us how Diane Elder and Nicole /Dyer changed her research habits in a big way.
Rondie Yancey received her B.A. and M.A. from ASU University and was a teacher for many years. She was a graduate of the Bay Area Writing Project, also from ASU, and that inspired her love of writing family histories. She has been chasing her various families since 1989, and is an enthusiastice genealogy student, recentrly graduating from Diane Elder and Nicole Dyer’s Research Like a Pro and the PCGS Genetic Genealogy in Practice Study Groups.
Jodi Lynn Strait will follow with our program entitled Getting to Know Fold3. Fold3 is a website dedicated mainly to military records including the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served. This program will show you how to navigate the website, provide highlights on some of their collections, explore the Fold3 memorial feature, and share some search strategies specific to the site.
Jodi Lynn Strait has been doing genealogical research for over 20 years. S?he is a certificate holder of Boston University’s Genealogical Recearh Program and completed the NGS home study course. She is a member of the National Genealogical Society (NGS) and the Chinkchewunska, New Jersey, chapter of the D.A.R. Jodi is PCGS’s Treasurer, editor of our newsletter The PCGS Researcher, serves as our Facebook manager, and serves on the Program, Publicity, and Workshop & Tours committees.
