PCGS DNA Special Interest Group SPECIAL! “What are the Odds?” Presentation and Workshop with Leah LePerle Larkin

Leah LePerle Larkin with What Are the Odds from DNApainter.com

Please register for the presentation and workshop HERE

The PCGS DNA Special Interest Group is pleased to bring you Leah LePerle Larkin, an expert in the practice of using DNA with your genealogy. No matter where you are in your Genealogy and DNA journey – beginner, someone who has done some investigation, or a more experienced researcher, you will get great information and a solid approach to your practice.

“What Are the Odds?” (WATO) is a revolutionary new tool at DNApainter.com that helps you figure out where someone with an unknown parent fits into the family tree of their DNA matches. You can compare different options, called “hypotheses” to see which rank the highest. The results allow you to better focus your research efforts and testing dollars. Better yet, it works using only shared cM amounts, so there is no need for a chromosome browser, and you can use matches from any testing company. This talk will provide a general overview of the tool, how to use it, and how to interpret the results. In the second portion of this session, we will engage in hands-on exercises with WATO.  The tool itself is free, but you need an account (also free) to save trees.  Participants are encouraged to set up an account at https://dnapainter.com/ prior to this session if they don’t already have one.

Leah LePerle Larkin, PhD, is a biologist-turned-genealogist who loves using DNA to solve family mysteries and teaching others to do the same. She offers full research services, blogs at theDNAgeek.com, runs several online genealogy groups, and lectures internationally. Leah collaborates on new approaches for genetic genealogy, including the revolutionary “What Are the Odds?” tool at DNAPainter.com.
