Reading Those Documents-Saturday, March 16, 2019

This Saturday’s general meeting is all about reading our documents. We will start with a short class by Amy Urman on Abbreviations & Symbols. There are numerous types of abbreviations and symbols found when researching. The type of abbreviations and symbols that we encounter may differ depending on the document type, time period, or context of writing.

Diana Elder, AG, will follow with a live online presentation entitled Right Under Your Nose: Analyzing Records You Already Have. Searching for clues about an ancestor but coming up empty? Helpful information is often hiding in documents that have already been found. Carefully analyzing records that are attached to your ancestor can shed new light on your research. We’ll discuss the reliability of informants, original vs. derivative records, and more.

Amy and Diana both gave great presentations today. We all learned a lot. And I discovered I am related to a few more PCGS members than I realized during the break! Thanks everyone for a fun day.
