PCGS in April Features Gena Philibert-Ortega

Saturday, April 15, 2023

Pima County Genealogy Society has two tremendous events on April 15th – both featuring Gena Philibert- Ortega! Gena will be in Tucson to present the important Workshop that you have been waiting for in the morning and then be our speaker for our April Monthly Meeting in the afternoon. Both events are presented as Hybrid. You choose how you attend: In Person or Virtual.

Workshop: Ensuring Your Genealogy Outlives You

Register for the April 15th Workshop Here

You put a lot of time and money into finding your ancestors so it stands to reason that you want that information to be passed on to the next generation. There are numerous reasons why that doesn’t happen, including indifference, disorganization, and lack of knowledge. In this workshop, we will take a look at how you can ensure your genealogy outlives you.

We will discuss and create action steps including:
Organizing your research so it makes sense
Gifting your research
Leaving a paper trail
Getting your family excited about their history
Writing final instructions

You will leave the workshop with a plan and steps to take to “trash-proof” your genealogy!

In-person seating is limited to 50 attendees. There will be a handout, light refreshments and door prizes.

April PCGS Monthly Meeting

Gena is featured for the entire April Monthly Meeting with two presentations. Join us either in person or via Zoom.

When: Saturday, 15 Apr 2023, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Arizona Time

Where: Hybrid: Truly Nolen Leadership Training Center, 436 S. Williams Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85711 and Virtual via Zoom

Anatomy of Birth Records

Genealogists know everything they need to know about birth records, right? What more is there to know? Successful research means knowing the background of a record and not just where to find it. Knowing more about the history of vital records can mean the difference between knowing why and why not you can find the record you need. This presentation looks at the history of birth records in the United States, variations of those records, and alternatives.

The Material Culture of Death

Most genealogy research stops at searching for an ancestor’s burial place, obituary, or death certificate. There is more to understanding our ancestor’s death than acquiring that information. We will take an up-close look at death in the 19th century, exploring the material culture of death and what it tells us about our ancestors’ lives.

Note: Gena is our presenter for the entire meeting in April.
