Come join us next Saturday, February 17, for Why Do So Many Americans Have German Ancestors? presented by Steve L. Packer of Mesa, Arizona.
Steve’s presentation on German research covers the historical area of the Holy Roman Empire and the Prussian Empire which covers most of the area of Western and Eastern Europe. We are expected to receive new insights into German research with this presentation.
Steve L. Packer was born and raised in a mountain valley in Utah where he lived until the family moved to Salt Lake City to be near the University when he was 17. His mother was a German immigrant who came to America at the age of 18 and his father’s family traces their heritage back to the first immigrant who came to America from Dublin, Ireland, in 1683 as an indentured servant. Steve lived and worked in Germany for a period of 5 years. He is fluent in both spoken and written German.
Steve was introduced to genealogy by his father who researched the Packer family in the 1970s and contributed to a book that was published in 1988 on English Packers.
Steve has served at the Mesa Regional Family History Center since December 2007 and is a volunteer at the Banner Health Care System working at the Baywood Medical Center.
