Registration is now open to PCGS Members for the PCGS Workshop: Preservation of your Treasures for the Next Generation. This event is hands-on and is in person, only, with attendance limited to 30 participants. Because space is limited, we are opening up to PCGS Members first through Dec 31, 2022. After Jan 1, 2023 we will allow non-members to register.

We will have water, coffee, iced tea, and snacks on hand for the afternoon. 

$20 for PCGS Members, $40 for Non-members

Description

Preservation of Your Treasures for the Next Generation is a care and conservation workshop for safely caring for, cleaning, and storing treasured items such as textiles (costumes, quilts, hats, etc.), basketry and toys, photographs, and paper items (bibles), jewelry and more. In addition, Nancy will discuss how-to-adapt your vacuum cleaner for textiles and how to cope with torn and burned items. There will be resource catalogs available for archival storage containers and handouts.

Please note – Attendees are encouraged to bring an item, either damaged or undamaged, to the workshop.

Workshop Topics 

• Concerns for lighting, relative humidity, temperature, pollutants (particles and gaseous) insects, mold. 

• Acid free and buffered tissue paper use 

• Padding for textiles and quilts in storage 

• Mounting textiles for display • Cleaning textiles, basketry, shoes, hats, etc. 

• Adapting a home vacuum cleaner 

• Archival storage containers for documents, books, and photographs 

• Cleaning & storing jewelry items Seating is limited to 30 attendees.

Registration is now open to PCGS members. Non-member registration will open on January 1. Deadline for registration is Monday, January 23, 2023.

Public Health Advisory:
The prevalence of Covid and other respiratory illnesses changes rapidly in Southern Arizona. PCGS will send out an updated advisory with current Pima County Health Department recommendations for attending large gatherings one week before each event.
