The following was written by Bob Black, Director of Tucson Family History Center and PCGS Steering Committee Member.
The Family History Center (500 S. Langley, southwest of Broadway and Kolb by Palo Verde Park) recently purchased a Kodak PS80 Scanning System. The system includes a high-speed photo scanner (85 pages per minute at 300 dpi) and a flatbed scanner that can separate sheets of photos, such as scrapbook or photo album pages, into individual scanned pictures. Scanned pictures can then be saved to a USB drive, uploaded to your FamilySearch memories gallery, or printed. There is no charge to scan and save the pictures but there is a per page printing fee of $.10 for black and white and $.25 for color. This is a great tool to digitize those boxes of photos and photo albums that keep you up at night whispering “digitize me – you know you should and I’m slowly deteriorating!”
The system is available on a first come – first serve basis. If demand becomes too great, we may go to reserved time slots, which is what other Family History Centers have implemented.
The Family History Center opens at 10:00 am Tuesday thru Saturday and is open until 8:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights (if there are patrons working at the Center at 8:00 pm, we will remain open until 9:00 pm on those evenings). We close at 2:00 pm on Wednesday and 5:00 pm on Friday and Saturday.
Summer closures:
- We will be closed the morning of Saturday, June 9, 2018, for a special youth activity, opening at noon until 5:00 pm.
- We will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.
- We will be closed for vacations from Tuesday, August 7 through Monday, August 20, 2018, reopening on Tuesday, August 21, 2018.
